How to properly load a washer
When loading clothes into the washer, there are two things to consider. Try not to overload or under load the washer. Washers work best when full with clothes.
With a front load washer, fill the tub until it's full, and make sure no clothes are outside the tub as this can cause damage to the washer and clothing. Also, don't pack the clothes too tight. Water and soap need to be able to freely move in and out of the clothes for proper cleaning.
For top loads washers, load clothes up to just before the top of the agitator (on washers with tall agitators), and set the water level to high.
Should you use hot water in your washer?
Periodically, you should use hot water in your washer. Otherwise, never using hot water to wash your clothes will cause soap scum build up in the washer. As a result, this will cause musty odors. If you don't like to wash your clothes in hot water, at least run an empty load with hot water and bleach approximately once a week to prevent the soap scum from building up. At your local store, there are also products available to use in your washer that will help keep it clean.
